Research

The Neuroblastoma Society funds research to find better treatment and supports clinical trials that measure how effective existing and new combinations of treatment are in improving recovery from the disease and survival.

Befriending

Do you need some help? If so feel free to ask for befriending support

One of the Society's twin aims is to offer the chance for parents to give each other mutual help, support and comfort. Our befriending support has members who are willing to share experiences with others, and all stages of the disease are represented.

Are you able to help somebody else? If you would like to discuss whether you would want to help please call Caroline on 01344 442302 or email her.

Fund-raising

Fund-raising and donations are the life blood of the Society's efforts to find better treatment and a cure for neuroblastoma. There are many ways in which you can help fight the disease through fund-raising.

Just click on any of the links below to go directly to further information about that particular fund-raising event.

Donations

The many ways in which you can donate money in support of the Society's work are shown on the donations page.

Payroll Giving

The Society is registered for payroll giving under Give as You Earn No. 2967. Individual employees donate a small percentage of earnings or a fixed amount each payday. This is deducted before tax so you benefit by effectively making a donation net of tax, whilst the charity receives the gross amount you give. Employers sometimes also make a donation.

Popular Running Events

The Society has managed to secure guaranteed places in a limited number of running events during 2010 and is now on the lookout for volunteers to participate and raise sponsorship money. Runners are asked to pledge to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship for the Society and in return will be sent a fundraising pack which includes Gift Aid approved sponsor forms, posters, information on setting up a Just Giving page together with a society T shirt or running vest.

Applications for any of the following events should be made to:

Stuart Spokes
Telephone: 01582 658884
E-mail: marathon@neuroblastoma.org.uk

2010 Great North & Great South Runs
The Great North Run is the biggest half marathon in the world with over 54,000 runners in 2009. This year's race is on Sunday 19 September. The Great South Run is a 10 mile race in and around Southsea & Portsmouth and is being held on 24 October 2010. The minimum sponsorship for each event is £250.

London Marathon
The society's Golden Bond places for the 2010 Virgin London marathon have already been allocated but a waiting list has been set up for the 2011 event.

Big Fun Runs
For the 3rd year running the society is an official charity of this popular series of fun runs. The runs are suitable for all ages. They take place over 3km courses and are usually set in parks or other scenic locations. The list of events has increased to 24 for 2010 so there is a good chance that one will be held near you. Why not get a group of friends and family together to run and raise funds for the society. There is no minimum amount of sponsorship set but runners who pledge to raise money for the society will receive discounted entry and a free society T shirt - A list of event locations and the dates of each run can be found at www.bigfunrun.com along with the online application form. Why not give it a go?!

The Society does not receive any of the entry fee for these runs, these are used to cover the costs of staging the event. The Society receives money through sponsorship raised by our runners. If you would like to take part in any of these events or require further information please contact our sporting events organiser Stuart Spokes, preferably by e-mail, at marathon@neuroblastoma.org.uk or by telephone on 01582 658884.

Brighton Marathon 2011
The society has secured a small number of guaranteed places in the 2011 Brighton Marathon. This is a relatively new event on the marathon circuit 2010 being the inaugural year. Feedback from people who took part in this year’s race has been excellent and the organisers are looking to bring in further improvements for 2011. If you would like to take part in this race for the society we ask that you pledge to raise a minimum of £600. Further details can be obtained from Stuart Spokes, preferably by e-mail, at marathon@neuroblastoma.org.uk or by telephone on 01582 658884.

Other Sporting Events
Even if we are unable to offer you a guaranteed place in an event, you are still warmly invited to run/walk/cycle/climb etc in the society's colours and be sponsored to support our work. All participants will be provided with a fundraising pack which includes Gift Aid approved sponsorship forms and a free society T-shirt/running vest. New sporting events are being organised every year so if you become aware of an event and think that the Society could benefit from it please contact Stuart Spokes on 01582 658884.
